Both Deceased Students Revealed in Brown University Shooting as Authorities Persist in Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who died in the recent tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences online, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

His name was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a raid at a hotel about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our public”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the building on Saturday, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the news agency.

Police that searched the hotel seized two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, one pupil was discharged from care, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his potential.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to records.
